New Nature and Cause of Injury Code for COVID-19 Claims Reporting
The Workers Compensation Insurance Organizations (WCIO) has updated the Injury Description Tables that are used by International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) to reflect specific coding in response to the corona virus (COVID-19). The new cause of injury code 83 (Pandemic) and new nature of injury code 83 (COVID-19) are being adopted by DWC. The WCIS reporting system has been modified to accept the new nature and cause of injury codes for COVID-19 claims.
To report COVID-19 claims, please use the new code 83 (COVID-19) for FROI DN 35 Nature of Injury Code and the new code 83 (Pandemic) for FROI DN37 Cause of Injury Code. The most recent version of the cause and nature of injury codes and part of body code can be found on the WCIO website: www.wcio.org and WCIS website: https://www.dir.ca.gov/dwc/WCIS.htm. If you have questions about how to report COVID-19 claims or the new cause and nature of injury codes, please contact WCIS at WCIS@DIR.CA.GOV or your designated trading partner contact.
