Important Notice Regarding the Publication of the California Consumer Price Index

Due to the federal government shutdown in the fall of 2025, the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) could not collect October 2025 reference period survey data. BLS has stated that it cannot provide specific guidance to data users for navigating the missing October observations.

The California Consumer Price Index (CCPI) published by the Department of Industrial Relations is a weighted average of the regional indexes published by BLS for Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, San Diego-Carlsbad, and Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario. The California Consumer Price Indexes for All Urban Consumers and for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers are normally published for even numbered months including October. However, DIR will not publish the CCPI for October 2025 as BLS was unable to publish the regional indexes from which the CCPI is derived. DIR will not provide specific instructions to data users for measuring inflation or the CCPI for October 2025 but will continue to provide technical assistance upon request.
