Office of the Director staff:

  • Coordinate and oversee the activities of the department's divisions, boards, and commissions;
  • Collaborate with policymakers and community leaders to improve working conditions and employment relations throughout California;
  • Communicate with interested parties, the media, and the public.

Public Works

DIR is responsible for the administration and enforcement of prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements on public works construction projects.  Visit the Public Works page to learn more about requirements.


Office of the Director - Research

The Office of the Director - Research conducts research and prepares and maintains databases on alternative workweek programs, the California Consumer Price Index, occupational injuries & illnesses, and public works projects.


Office of the Director - Decisions and Determinations

The Office of the Director issues Prevailing Wage Enforcement Decisions arising out of prevailing wage enforcement actions under Labor Code section 1742.

The Office of the Director also issues Public Works Coverage Determinations on whether a specific project or type of work is public work subject to prevailing wage requirements.

Additionally, on behalf of the Director in her capacity as the Administrator of Apprenticeship, the Office of the Director issues decisions on the deregistration of apprenticeship programs and the suspension of registration of apprentice agreements.

Office of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs (OLRA)

The Office of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs (OLRA) coordinates the legislative and rulemaking activities of DIR’s divisions, boards and programs and communicates on emerging issues with the Governor’s Office, the Labor and Workforce Development Agency, other government agencies, workers, employers and community stakeholders.

The Labor Enforcement Task Force combats the underground economy in California to create an environment where legitimate businesses can thrive.
