CHSWC Releases for Feedback a Report on the Frequency and Economic Impact of Musculoskeletal Disorders for California Firefighters
OAKLAND — The Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation (CHSWC) has released and posted on its website for public comment the working paper, “The Frequency and Economic Impact of Musculoskeletal Disorders for California Firefighters.”
This study by RAND updates the analyses from an earlier 2010 RAND study and considers the impacts of the 2012 workers' compensation reforms (Senate Bill 863) and the economic shocks of the late 2000s on outcomes for firefighters with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
The report is available at https://www.dir.ca.gov/chswc/Reports/2019/Firefighter_MSD_Report.pdf and feedback to the Commission may be sent by email to CHSWC_PublicComments@dir.ca.gov or to the below mailing address no later than the due date of August 22, 2019.
CHSWC is charged with examining the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation. The Commission was established to conduct a continuing examination of the workers' compensation system and of the state's activities to prevent industrial injuries and occupational illnesses and to examine those programs in other states.
Information about CHSWC is available at www.dir.ca.gov/chswc/chswc.html. Information may also be obtained by writing to CHSWC at 1515 Clay Street, 17th floor, Oakland, CA 94612; by calling (510) 622-3959; by faxing a request to 510-286-0499; or by sending an email to chswc@dir.ca.gov.
